Indiana's Marriage Amendment

This was the scene at the south end of the Indiana statehouse today.

We were able to get a good look at the semi-trucks pulling up and dropping off the trailers from up here on the fourth floor. My co-workers and I got a good laugh out of it. I am not sure who is responsible for this stunt but I would place my money on Evangelical, Eric Miller (who may make a bid for Indiana Governor) and his organization "Advance America".

For those of you who don't know, the issue of a constitutional amendment to define marriage as between one man and one woman has been a hot issue in Indiana for the past few years. To make an amendment to the state constitution, it must pass two consecutive General Assemblies (or 2 election cycles). This was the last session for the amendment to pass the current Indiana General Assembly and it passed the previous one.

I am for the marriage amendment. I strongly believe in protecting the sanctity of marriage, but this stunt was just silly. There are two session days left in 2008 (Thursday and Friday) and the issue is dead. This means that the soonest the amendment could pass would be 2012. The way I see it, two semi trailers was a big waste of money for whoever did it.
