The Democratic presidential candidates, Senators Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton, are promising “change” for the American people if elected this year. Both presidential hopefuls are making one big promise that is apparent they don’t intend, or will not be able to keep. That promise is to “bring home the troops”.
If you are one of those nutty leftists that believe bringing the troops home is the best course of action, at least tell me that you don’t believe that either Democratic candidate will actually get it done. Let’s not kid ourselves people. Do you think that these candidates don’t know that if they were indeed elected, it would be near impossible for them to order the U.S. military out of Iraq? Even if it were possible to do so it would be political suicide.
Let me take you on a trip. Remember, this is a fantastical trip; one you can only go on by reading this or doing drugs. For the sake of this trip we will imagine that the Democratic presidential nominee, Hillbama, has been elected and was indeed serious about withdrawing from Iraq. After the November elections, Hillbama will continue his hard rhetoric and empty promises of bringing the troops home. Day one in the White House Hillbama will be asked, “What is the first order of business Mr. President?” “Let’s bring the troops home,” President Hillbama answers. His top aid chuckles a bit and looks over at the president only to see that he has a befuddled look on his face. “That was a joke right?” says the top aid. “I thought that was just another empty election promise. We can’t do that.”
See, the people in Washington know that withdrawing from Iraq is not a current possibility. Whether they agreed with the war from the beginning, never agreed with it, or are simply unsatisfied with the execution of the war, Washington insiders know that withdrawing from Iraq would lead to utter chaos in the country creating a fresh breeding ground for terrorists and further destabilize the entire region. No military or political adviser in their right mind would let a president pull all U.S. troops out of Iraq, especially after the exceptional military and political progress that has been made since the troop surge that President Bush pushed for a little over a year ago.
Do you think that the Democratic candidates, both U.S. Senators actually believe that withdrawing from Iraq is a possibility? Do you think that they don’t know what the ramifications of such actions would be? Furthermore, do you think that these senators are not privy to classified military intelligence? Do you think they do not know about interrogation practices, torture and extraordinary rendition? C’mon people, don’t be so naïve. Senator Obama is on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Senator Clinton sits on the Senate Armed Forces Committee. These two candidates know what is happening in the war on terror and they know that they would be unable to do anything about it if elected president. I am quite sure that they wouldn’t want to do anything even if they could. Hillbama is just dishing out the same old empty promises in hopes that it will be enough to get him elected.
