There is no such thing as accountability for government officials anymore. My grandparents generation put up with a little corruption because at the end of the day, government was held accountable for their actions. By who? Well, their employers of course; the American people.
We keep hearing about "change" from Obama and Hilary. The truth is that they do not represent change. Change would be a balanced budget. Obama and Hilary cannot achieve that. They want to universalize health care and try to save social security without privatizing it. That sure isn't going to balance the budget. They want to spend, spend, spend without considering where the money is going to come from and how the U.S. is going to pay off trillions of dollars in immediate debt. The Republican ticket won't balance the budget either! That is just the way is is.
Change would be going back to our roots; not just revering our founding fathers but putting their beliefs into action. Change would be less government. Hillary and Obama don't want less government. They want to intrude on every aspect of your life. They want control of your health care, your retirement, you jobs, your family. They want to tell you what to do and when to do it. They want to take God out of your lives. I wouldn't expect much better from the Republican ticket either though. To reduce the scope of government and get back to where we should be they would have to piss off a lot of people. And they just aren't willing to do that.
Change would be less talk and more action.
Change would be for these tired old politicians to stop feeding us the same old empty promises and get something done. Change would be for Democrats to stop looking for the next opportunity to attack conservatives and their values and spend that time getting something done for the American people. The people want government out of their personal lives. The people want to be protected from terrorists or any other enemy. The people want an end to illegal immigration and for illegal immigrants who are here to go home. The people want to be able to afford gas for their cars and to heat their homes. The people want the government to drill for more oil, to wave their bigger stick at the OPEC and tell them how it is going to be. The people want the politicians to do it, not just talk about it.
Change would mean term limits for all elected U.S. officials. The more time they spend in Washington, the less productive they are. The more time they spend in Washington, the more likely they are participate in earmark spending. The more time they spend in Washington, the better they know the ins and outs of ripping off the American people. The more time they spend in Washington, the more they follow their own personal agendas and ignore the wants and needs of their constituency. Democrats and Republicans alike.
Change would mean doing what is right instead of what is popular or most profitable. Change would be following the principals on which this country was founded which are most notably life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, but also GOD, family, hard work and patriotism. Our founding fathers are rolling over in their graves right now. Some would say, "there has to be natural progression". I agree. But we are not progressing people! We have progressed to the point of regression! I love the quote from the movie "The Patriot" when Mel Gibson's character says, "Why trade one tyrant 3,000 miles away for 3,000 tyrants one mile away"? Guess what folks... we now have a slew of tyrants sitting in Washington. It didn't start out that way. It used to be that people got into government to help their fellow man, to better the country in which they lived and because they genuinely loved being American. Now it is just seen as glamorous and lucrative.
I won't lie to you. I want to be one of those politicians in Washington one day. But I want to do my time and get out. Why do I want to do it? Because I love this country and I wake up every morning and thank God for being born in American. I tried joining the military. The Coast Guard wouldn't even take me because of my asthma. So, what better way to serve my country than to fight for they very changes I have just written about. And you better believe I won't forget where I came from. I won't forget my experience here in the Indiana statehouse, talking to once comfortable, middle-class citizens who are now on the brink of losing their homes, losing their jobs, losing their way of life because the government over taxes and under works.
I talk to Americans everyday who feel the same way I do. And yet, they buy into the same old lines of crap that politicians like Barack Obama feed them. They buy into the same old promises of change that they have heard for decades.
It is high time we held our elected officials more accountable. If they are not doing what you want them to do, vote them out the next chance you get. And if you can't find anyone who will work for you, then by God run for office yourself.
If things don't change, we all better be prepared to see a second American Revolution. People will not stand for taxation without representation (and when a representative is fighting for his/her own agenda, it cannot be considered representation). They will not stand for a government that does nothing but dig deeper into the pockets of its citizenry. There will come a point when the American people will be able to recognize an empty promise. They will recognize that politicians are not aiding progression, but halting it. They will recognize that our freedoms are being taken from us, we are being taxed to death (and after), that our great nation is no where near the beacon of hope that it once was. And when the people recognize this, they will be infuriated and they will storm Capitol Hill with pitchfork in right hand and torch in left.
